vintage

January 6, 2010

When Molly Ambrose notices a few dark hairs on her upper lip, she thinks it’s the biggest dilemma she will ever face – it is pretty gross, after all. Little does she realize it will only be a blip on the crisis radar. Despite being pretty much invisible to her Harper High School peers, Molly soon comes to learn that she is perhaps the most important person in the world – 300 years in the future, anyway.

Typical teenage loser life changes for Molly the day a stranger named Ian comes into the restaurant where she works. Mysterious and intriguing, he has many secrets that puzzle her. He shares a connection with her best friend Sarah, which neither one of them will talk about, leaving Molly not knowing who to trust.

Once discovering the truth behind Ian and Sarah’s relationship, Molly is thrust into a future and society that is one decision away from falling completely apart.

VINTAGE, is a story of love, betrayal, and a race through time to salvage a world and life Molly didn’t know she had.

Sample:

I had a hairy upper lip. My freaking lip was a giant fur ball. Well, that’s sexy. I moved in a little closer to the mirror to fully assess the fuzz.

No wonder I didn’t have a boyfriend. Heat flooded my cheeks as I imagined what guys heard when they met me. “Hi, my name is Molly and my caterpillar lip greets you.” Oh, God.

Maybe I was exaggerating a little. It was only a couple of hairs and not the pelt I’d originally seen in my reflection. But still! So not attractive.

Rolling my eyes, I turned away from the mirror and out of the employee bathroom. It looked like today’s tips were going to go toward depilatory cream. That was just awesome.

It was only fitting that I would have the genetic misfortune of inheriting my dad’s coloring and hair issues. It was such crap! When mom was seventeen, she’d been blonde-haired, blue eyed, with an eyebrow arch that would make Anastasia – esthetician to the stars – weep. But me?  Let’s just say she found the money for my bi-weekly eyebrow appointments. Guess I needed to add the lip to my waxing regime now. Damn.

“So, ready to get back to the grind?” my friend Sarah asked as she met me in the kitchen area.

“I’m just so excited I can barely stand it,” I said, exaggerating my Southern drawl. “Hey, I need to stop by Wal-mart before you drop me off at my house. See what I discovered when I looked in the mirror just now?”

I leaned towards Sarah and pointed to my lip. Her eyebrows crunched up as she searched my face. “What in the world are you talking about?”

“This! This right here! See it? The hairs. So gross. I need to buy Nair.”

“Molly, you are insane. There is nothing there!”

“Yes, there is. Oh God, you don’t want me to get rid of it so you can sell me to a circus freak show!” I threw my arm over my face.

“Ok, yes, Molly the Bearded Lady.  It’s all part of my grand plan,” Sarah said through a giggle.
