So, again, I’m reading Nathan Bransford’s blog. This many posts about it make me feel kind of like a stalker, but I’m really not…I’m usually pretty normal, I think. Except when the voices start talking to me…*cue creepy music*
Anyway, the discussion was about your favorite book as a teen and how embarrassing those years were for you. My answer to the book question was a two answerer (so a word…trust me): Harry Potter and In Cold Blood. Psychoanalyze that. ;-P
And then, high school…ohhh high school. Basically, I was a dweeb. Full on braces, some rockin’ bangs, and zero fashion sense. I’d like to say the fashion has changed a lot, but really, not so much. I envy people who can whip up a super cute outfit and look adorable, but not me. I’m a jeans and sweater kind of girl, but when I’m rich and famous, I’m hiring a stylist to dress me. I just have to figure out how to be rich and famous. Any ideas?
So, without further ado, 15 year old me:
I was so hardcore. Oh, and the fantastic photography is courtesy of my friend, Regan. We had many adventures in high school, that’s for sure. And yes, that’s blue mascara you see.

Yes!!! The photo lives! :) This picture sooooo says 15 yr old Amanda. :)
I may have been a weird kid, but all through high school I was obsessed with Stephen King. Not sure exactly when I picked up Skeleton Crew, but I read it (and re-read it) through multiple times, then discovered Shaun Hutson, Clive Barker, Steve Harris, David Britton and the other then-current crop of writers…
All through my teens I absolutely hated being a teenager, and the endless rules, restrictions and impossible demands couldn’t end soon enough. It’s strange, but there IS a difference between being told to do some assignment or other for school, and being asked (politely) to work two days non-stop (and through the night) on something. I can’t put my finger on exactly why the two things are different, but work is much, much less aggravating than some people seem to think of it as being. And there is always payday to look forward to.
I know what you mean, even though I am a school teacher. I think the approach is important when you’re a student, really. If the teacher presents the information in a meaningful way, it’s not torture to complete the assignment. It kind of goes hand in hand with the whole work environment thing, too. If you enjoy your job, you don’t mind sacrificing some extra hours for it. Does that make sense?
Though it would have been SO nice to get paid for all of that school work.
Don’t worry, I am WAY dorkier than that. Imagine this: PURPLE EYELINER.
Oh, and crazy curly hair. Like ethnic/Jew curls at the same time.
Hey, I STILL rock the purple eyeliner on occasion. lol What can I say? I have green eyes. :-P
At least you didn’t have shock yellow hair with black pencil line eyebrows. I would post pictures but I burned them all.
That’s hilarious, Donna. I would pay to see that! Ha!
